Cnoc Soilleir Ltd is looking for someone to join their small team to help deliver this exciting new project that is well on its way South Uist.

This role would suit someone who is looking to grow their skills and expertise and be an enthusiastic key team player as this project moves from development and construction into operations. Training and support will be available as necessary.

The project is a joint venture between Lews Castle College UHI (LCC UHI) and Ceòlas Uibhist and will deliver a new bespoke building and facilities for both organisations in Daliburgh.

The building will form a new centre for Gàidhlig culture, music, performance, and creative industries, with facilities designed to enable both organisations to grow and develop, as well as providing a focus for the local community.

Phase 1 of the construction project is currently on site and due to be complete late Autumn 2021. Phase 2 has recently been granted £3million funding by the Scottish Government and there will be a focus over the next few months to raise additional funding to enable this to go ahead as soon as possible.

Objective and purpose of role

To support and grow the current team consisting of the Project Manager (PM) and Cnoc Soilleir Ltd (CS Ltd) board to ensure successful delivery of Phase 1 construction and facilitate successful transition to operations and occupation of the new building.

To support submitting funding applications and implementation of Phase 2 construction and set this stage of the project on the way to delivery.

Communication skills to engage with stakeholders including the local community will be key.

Role description

The post holder will work alongside and support the Cnoc Soilleir project management team to ensure successful project delivery, and transition from development to operations.

Specific areas that require significant input and support over the next few months include the following:

Developing and implementing a marketing strategy alongside the joint venture partners and deliver appropriate bilingual Gaelic and English social media and communications to promote and follow the development of the project.

Engaging with Gaelic community both locally and wider afield to promote and follow the development of the project.

Overseeing the implementing the procurement of the furniture and equipment for the completed building. These items have all been identified and budgeted.

Providing day to day office and admin support to the project including organising and attending meetings, taking minutes where appropriate, inputting financial data to spreadsheets, writing completing and finalising reports.

Assisting in preparation of supporting documentation as required for the implementation of Phase 2

Liaising with stakeholders and funders and ensuring that any reports and supporting paperwork are issued in a timely manner to enable smooth transfer of funds.

Assist project manager with day-to-day management of accounts, paying invoices, submitting grant claims to funders as required. Depending on the successful candidate’s specific skills and experience there will be opportunities to find areas of work where they can develop ownership and authority. Training and support will be available as necessary to support this.

Key duties

As part of a Director-led team, establish and set up our first manufacturing facility.

During initial prototyping engage in hands-on participation in the manufacturing process and on-site construction trials.

Establish logistics for the manufacturing facility including; the order and delivery of base materials, parts for machinery use, throughput of material through the factory.

Set the manufacturing workflow schedule.

Manage the delivery of the manufacturing workflow.

Manage the maintenance and operation oversight of the manufacturing facility.

Input into the management of the site delivery team’s programme.

Contribute where necessary to manufacturing / site activities.

Oversight of manufacturing process staff (to be appointed during Year 1) supporting line management by Directors.

Research & Development: Contribute to the ongoing development of the manufacturing plant operation, to refine the manufacturing process. Contribute to the ongoing development of the products delivered by 7-22 Systems including liaison with external organisations.

Academic Partnership liaison with National University of Ireland, Galway, which is providing support, through Co-Innovate, on structural testing of components.

Client facing communication.

As part of the 7-22 Management team, ensure the Health and Safety of the manufacturing process follows HSE best practice.

Essential Criteria

This is a new company in an innovative field. There are no set qualifications required to be considered for this role. 7-22 Systems requires someone with a professional approach, curious mind, practical aptitude, excellent organisational skills, and a can-do attitude.

Excellent computer literacy and proficiency, including Microsoft Excel.

Excellent inter-personal and written / verbal presentation skills.

Ability to participate in manual construction and fabrication-based activities in factory setting and on site.

Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.

Desirable Criteria

Ability to demonstrate strong management skills.

Working knowledge of CADCAM and / or CAD software (eg Autodesk Fusion 360, Revit, AutoCAD or similar).

Knowledge / experience of preparing project funding proposals.

Appropriate transferrable practical skills.

Full valid driver’s licence (rural travel will be required outwith the scope of very limited public transport).

Own transport desirable due to rural location.
