Western Isles Citizens Advice Service (WICAS) is a local, independent charity which provides free, impartial and confidential advice and information to the whole of the Western Isles through four offices – Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra.

WICAS delivers support and guidance on a range of topics, giving people the information they require to deal with any situation and improve their lives.

Western Isles Citizens Advice Service (WICAS) requires a Finance and Administration Officer who will deal with all aspects of office administration systems for all WICAS offices in the Western Isles.

WICAS seeks someone who can maintain computer based financial recording systems and administer HMRC payroll systems, including pensions, PAYE and NI.

A good standard of education and organisation skills are essential, as is knowledge of computer systems and their applications.

Salary is £23,296 (pro-rata) plus £2,280 (pro-rata) Island Allowance and 6% pension contribution.

If so, read on, because Lews Castle College UHI Board of Management is looking to appoint, through UHI, up to six independent non-executive members from a broad range of backgrounds, skills and experience to help set the overall strategic direction of the college and be responsible for its corporate governance.

In particular, candidates are sought who can demonstrate experience or knowledge of:

  • further, higher or senior secondary education or the college student experience; or
  • industry, commerce, finance, the third sector, public service or trade unions; or
  • the region (or a relevant part of it) and its relevant needs.

Board members must commit 6 days or so in any academic year for board and committee duties. The majority of meetings are held in the evening, each lasting 2 hours and may be accessed remotely. Appointments will be for four years in the first instance. Student and staff members are appointed through different arrangements.

Successful appointees will be expected to meet the standards of conduct expected of Board Members as set out in relevant guidance, including the Scottish Colleges’ Code of Good Governance (2016). All appointments are subject to the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and Members must formally register any interests which may have a bearing on their work for the board.

The role is not remunerated, although reasonable expenses are normally covered.
